75 Coburg Street

75 Coburg is one of our only two properties located north of Union Street.  New Brunswick’s former Lieutenant-Governor Murray MacLaren called this stately building home, which is why the residence was and still is known by some as Old Government House.  MacLaren was a physician before getting into politics, and then was elected as a Member of Parliament to Canada’s House of Commons before serving as Lieutenant-Governor from 1935-1940. King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, visited the property on a royal visit to Canada when MacLaren was Lieutenant-Governor.

The top floor is home to a penthouse suite featuring two king bedrooms, and two full bathrooms EACH with sink, toilet, shower AND a whirlpool tub big enough for two!  A full kitchen and a living room complete the penthouse, from which you have a bird’s eye view of the steeple of the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on Waterloo Street.  Beneath the penthouse, 13 suites of various smaller sizes are found.  The most common type is a bachelor style unit with queen bed, kitchenette and three-piece bath, but the building is also home to a bit larger “super bachelor” with full kitchen and full bath, and a bit smaller bachelor with double bed.  As well, 75 Coburg features two open concept executive units, one of which is the largest of its type across all our properties.  Chipman Hill Suites is happy to have a combination of short-stay and longer term guests at this property, and we’re proud to extend at this property our best special hospital rates for out-of-town guests who require hospital treatment or may be visiting family undergoing same.

Located in very close proximity to St. Joseph’s Hospital, and just up Garden Street from the overpass that takes you to Millidgeville (where the Saint John Regional Hospital and UNBSJ are located), the two Coburg Street properties are perfect for anyone required to make frequent trips to either hospital. They are within an easy walking distance of Harbour Station, an Irving Convenience store, the magnificent Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the renowned Saint John City Market, a dry cleaners, the JD Irving office building at 300 Union Street, the Irving Oil “Golden Ball” office building, and much more. Although it is north of Union, that doesn’t mean 75 Coburg is too far removed from all the uptown action… it is only about a 5-minute walk to King Square, and from there, the uptown world is your oyster!
